3 Ways to Boost Your Creativity
Are you unintentionally killing your creativity?
If you’re constantly feeling stuck, distracted, or uninspired, look around. The space you’re in and the people you’re around either pull creativity out of you or suppress it. That’s why it’s so important to intentionally put yourself in environments that elevate how you think and create.
Over the last few days, I made a few simple shifts that completely changed my creative space.
First, I changed my perspective, literally. I had been sitting and staring at a wall all day, so I moved my setup to face natural light and greenery, and everything changed. Here’s how you can do it:
Find a new place around the office.
If you work from home, go to a coffee shop.
Sit out on your patio
Either way, putting yourself in a different perspective will give you a new perspective on what you need to create.
Second, I set my phone aside. Not easy, and I’m still working on it, but if I’m serious about what I’m building, distractions can’t have priority over creation. Listen, I’ve tried the Do Not Disturb feature, and I still get disturbed. Here’s what I’ve tried that works for me:
Putting your phone in a separate room
Turning your phone off or in airplane mode
Setting your phone up to record you (this is great if you’re working on building content)
Phones are stealing our creativity, and now is the time to take it back! Show who’s actually in control of what you’re designing.
Third, I got ready. When you feel good about how you look, you carry yourself differently, and that confidence doesn’t stay isolated; it shows up in your work.
Put a little makeup on
Wear one of your favorite shirts
Make your hair look nice
These are no-brainer things, but the moment you do them, you have an extra pep in your step, and it gives you the boost in confidence you’re looking for.
Try this for yourself. Shift your space and watch what happens to your output. Because creativity isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you design.
